EBS Portal Log on

Below is information about logging into and off of the EBS Portal, including common issues.

Log In and Log Off

General Login Instructions

To log in to the EBS Portal

  1. Enter your MSU email address, then press "Next"
  2. Enter your Password, then press "Sign In"
  3. Enter your Multi-Factor Authentication

Visit IT Services for information on how to:

  1. Reset a Password
  2. Request Specific Access (login required)
  3. Manage Your NetID

Logoff

To log off, click the person icon (shows your name), then "Sign Out".

Auto Logoff (or Extend Session)

Sessions in the EBS Portal are limited to  30 minutes  of inactivity.  Inactivity  means that no information has been saved during that period (navigating around the portal, while an activity, doesn't save anything an thus the timer keeps counting down).

While on the Portal Landing Page (with the tiles) or in any HR or Payroll application, a warning will pop up at  25 minutes. This allows you to either extend your session for another 30 minutes, or log off immediately.

Common Issues

The EBS Portal relies on the security system utilized throughout MSU. This may lead to some common issues as noted below.

The EBS Portal now uses the  New MSU Unified Login Experience. Bookmarks or favorites in browsers or links in other documents should be updated or replaced, and point to either:

Errors for Out-of-Date links

If a bookmark, favorite, or link is out of date, the following error will result.

Very old bookmarks, favorites, and links may give the following:

Examples

The following URLs are out of date and should NOT be used.

  • http$://login.msu.edu/?App=EBSP-SecPortal
  • http$://login.msu.edu/?App=EBSP-SAP

Once you log off the EBS Portal, you arrive back at a login screen. This is the login screen for Okta, MSU's unified login system, and not the EBS Portal.

Logging in here will NOT take you back to the EBS Portal, but you can get to the EBS Portal should you log in here. To return to the EBS Portal, click the tile titled "HR-EBSPortal".

Some tiles in the EBS Portal will require a second login screen. These tiles are no longer on the same login system as the EBS Portal itself, thus preventing Single Sign-On (SSO).

Will this always happen?

You may not encounter a second login if you have already established a Single Sign-On (SSO) session by logging into other applications that still use Sentinel for login.

Which Tiles?

Tile What will I see? How do I get to the login page?
Ability Training Compliance Landing Page Select "NetID Login"
Handshake Landing Page Select "Michigan State University Sign On"
Careers @ MSU Landing Page Select "Applicant Login", then "Next"
U-Track Landing Page Navigating through to certain links will initiate Single Sign-On

There are many components to security and access to systems at Michigan State University. After going through the login screen for the EBS Portal, if you encounter the message "   User is not assigned to this application   ," that means the security systems are out-of-sync. Specifically, the Okta security platform does not yet recognize your MSU Net ID as having access to the EBS Portal.

To correct this, file a ticket with the  MSU IT Service Desk. It is helpful to provide your NetID and a screenshot of the message, including the URL of the screen that gave the message. The ticket should be filed to the direction of the "group" named "ITS Identity Management."
