Form i-9

Michigan State University must verify employment eligibility for all employees utilizing the electronic I-9 Management System. New or rehired employees, as well as unit/department administrators share a responsibility for completing both sections of the I-9 Form.

Newly hired and rehired employees must complete Section 1 of the I-9 Form on or before the first day of employment. Original, unexpired documents from either List A or List B and C must be presented to the unit/ department I-9 verifier for Section 2 completion within three calendar days of the first day of employment. I-9 forms can be completed up to six months in advance of an employees start date as long as an offer for employment has been made and accepted by the employee.

To update a current employee's expiring work authorization, I-9 verifiers may log in via the Section 2 link below, and process a Supplement B reverification. See I-9 Reverification for more details.

I-9 Verifier Training

If you complete I-9 forms or need access to I-9s as an administrator, you must first complete training in order to receive access to the electronic I-9 system. All I-9 Verifiers must complete annual training in order to maintain certification. Visit the Training & Security Access page for information on how to complete this training and maintain your certification.

Employees who need assistance utilizing the electronic system should contact MSU Human Resources at HR.I9Admin@hr.msu.edu or 517-353-4434.
