I-9 Reverification
Employers must complete Supplement B (previously called Section 3) of the Form I-9 when an employment authorization or documentation of the authorization has expired (reverification). To find if authorization has expired, login to the Electronic I-9 system and click Reverificaton Due from the Quick Search menu.
Departments must reverify that the employee is still authorized to work. USCIS suggests employers remind employees at least 90 days before the required date of reverification that the employee will be required to present a List A or List C document showing authorization to work. This documentation needs to show continued employment authorization on the date of the authorization expiration.
To complete a Supplement B Reverification:
- With the employee physically present, login to the Electronic I-9 system
- Click the Verifier Access to MSU’s online I-9 system link
- Click the Reverification Due link in the Quick Search menu
- Click the Employees Name link under Search Results: Reverification Due. The Employee Detail screen displays
- Click the Supplement B button. The Updating and Reverification window displays
- Select a Visa Type (for either Permanent Residents or Non Citizens Authorized to Work)
- Select the applicable List A or List C documents (see I-9 Quick Tip Guide for typical documents)
- Click Continue. Supplement B – Employer Review and Verification screen displays
- Enter applicable document information and complete Supplement B
If an employee’s Citizenship Status changes, a Supplement B Reverification cannot be completed. A new I-9 will need to be completed instead.
