Eligibility and Enrollment Info
You are eligible to enroll if you are a regular full-time (90-100%) or part-time (50.0-89.9%) Support Staff, Faculty, Academic Staff, or Executive Management employee appointed 9 months or longer AND meet one of the following criteria:
- You are a J-1 or J-2 visa holder
- Your MSU work assignment will be outside the USA for six months or longer
No, this plan is designed to cover individuals who will be living outside the United States for 6 months or longer. Please contact the Risk Management Office to ensure you have the appropriate coverage for your travel.
Yes, this plan is designed to cover individuals who will be living outside the United States for 6 months or longer and continuing to actively work for MSU.

Leave of Absence and Employment Termination Info
You will be eligible to continue coverage through COBRA. You will receive a COBRA election notice and enrollment form and must enroll within 60 days to continue coverage.
You are no longer eligible for the CGHA plan after you retire. You will have 30 days to elect a new plan for eligible retirees.
Maybe. This plan is designed to cover individuals who live outside the USA for six months or longer and continue to actively work for MSU. In most instances, since an employee is not actively working for MSU on a leave of absence without pay, they would not be eligible to enroll in the CGHA plan.
However, if you are on an approved sabbatical leave, since this is intended for the mutual benefit of the university and the faculty member, you are considered still actively working for MSU and therefore eligible to enroll in the CGHA plan.
