Michigan State University offers dental insurance through Delta Dental of Michigan. The dental insurance plan is a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plan that offers graduate assistants an affordable, quality dental plan.

Coverage and Enrollment Dates:

2024-25 Plan Year

Fall
Open Enrollment: July 1, 2024 through October 31, 2024
Coverage Effective: September 1, 2024 through August 31, 2025

Open Enrollment: November 1, 2023 through February 29, 2024
Coverage Effective: January 1, 2024 through December 31, 2024

Eligibility

  • Graduate assistants with 1/4, 1/2, or 3/4 appointments (eligible for tuition waiver)
  • Michigan State University pays 50 percent of the dental plan premiums for eligible MSU Graduate Assistants with active appointments. 

Please note there is a difference between being a graduate student and a graduate assistant. If you are a graduate student without a paid appointment as a graduate assistant, you do not qualify for the Graduate Assistant Dental Plan, but can enroll in the student dental plan.  

Eligible Dependents

Eligible dependents of graduate assistants enrolled in the plan:

  • Spouse/Other Eligible Individual (OEI)
  • Children
  • Stepchildren

Note: Dependent children must be under age 26.  

Qualifying Life Event changes are not available for the Graduate Assistant Delta Dental Plan.
