Michigan State University offers dental insurance through Delta Dental of Michigan. The dental insurance plan is a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plan that offers graduate assistants an affordable, quality dental plan.

- Teaching Assistants Update: Teaching Assistants who are teaching remotely from foreign nations due to the coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic and who are unable to travel to the United States shall have the option to enroll in the Cigna Global Health Advantage (CGHA) Insurance Plan in lieu of the health and dental insurance coverage provided under the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Coverage and Enrollment Dates:
2021-22 Plan Year
Open Enrollment: July 1, 2021 through October 31, 2021
Coverage Effective: September 1, 2021 through August 31, 2022
Open Enrollment: November 1, 2021 through February 28, 2022
Coverage Effective: January 1, 2022 through December 31, 2022
2020-21 Plan Year
Open Enrollment: November 1, 2020 through February 28, 2021
Coverage Effective: January 1, 2021 through December 31, 2021
MSU Graduate Assistant Dental Plan
- Graduate assistants with 1/4, 1/2, or 3/4 appointments (eligible for tuition waiver)
- Michigan State University pays 50 percent of the dental plan premiums for eligible MSU Graduate Assistants with active appointments.
Please note there is a difference between being a graduate student and a graduate assistant. If you are a graduate student without a paid appointment as a graduate assistant, you do not qualify for the Graduate Assistant Dental Plan, but can enroll in the student dental plan.
Eligible dependents of graduate assistants enrolled in the plan:
- Spouse/Other Eligible Individual (OEI)
Note: Dependent children must be under age 26.
