Sick Leave Payoff/Termination (not Retirement) at 65 Years of Age or Older 

Notes:

1. An employee will not receive payment for unused sick leave when terminating, except when retiring (see charts below) (VARIES: APA or APSA employees who are laid off from the University and whose recall rights have expired may receive partial payment of unused sick leave credits).

2. Full-time employees who do not meet the University's minimum retirement requirements but have at least five years but less than ten years of continuous service, and have attained 65 years of age at the time of separation, shall be paid for unused sick leave as of the effective date of separation, in accordance with charts below.

11/25/13 - Adjusted vacation maximums to 240 for APS off-campus and Extension Program Asst, adjusted sick maximums to 1200 for CTU, 1585 off-campus, Extension Program Asst, Resident Advisor, added sick leave payoff/termination at 65 years or older chart

02/15/16 - Adjusted vacation pay max for CTU/MSU off-campus to 240 hours

05/22/2025 - Adjusted sick leave payoff from 1200 to 1300 maximum hours for APA and 274.

03/05/2026- Sick time payout for nurses will remain consistent with the current practice under MSU policy.

Laid Off Employee Provisions- APA & APSA

A laid off APA Employee whose recall rights have expired and who is not otherwise eligible for payout of accrued sick leave under Paragraphs 196, 197, 198 and 199 of the CBA may receive partial payment for unused sick leave credits according to the schedule below:

11 years through 15 years Unused sick leave, not to exceed one-fourth (1/4) of up to 1,300 hours
16 years through 20 years Unused sick leave, not to exceed threeeighths (3/8) of up to 1,300 hours
More than 20 years Unused sick leave, not to exceed one-half (1/2) of up to 1,300 hours
     
A laid off APSA Employee whose recall rights have expired and who is not otherwise eligible for payout of accrued sick leave under Paragraphs 196, 197, 198 and 199 of the CBA may receive partial payment for unused sick leave credits according to the schedule below:
