The Generation card displays the count of benefit-eligible employees by generational cohort as of July 1 of the selected fiscal year

Employees are grouped into generations based on their year of birth. This card provides a high-level view of the workforce’s generational composition and helps users understand how it changes over time.

 

Key Metrics & Definitions


Generation Counts

Values represent the number of benefit-eligible employees in each generation as of July 1.Generational groupings are assigned based on year of birth as stored in the HR/Payroll system.

 

Generation Categories

Employees are grouped into the following generational cohorts: 

    • Greatest Generation (1901–1927)
    • Silent Generation (1928–1945)
    • Baby Boomers (1946–1964)
    • Generation X (1965–1980)
    • Millennial Generation (1981–1996)
    • Generation Z (1997–2010)
    • Generation Alpha (2011–2024)
Generation vs. Age Group
  • Generation is based on an employee’s year of birth and does not change over time.
  • Age group reflects the employee’s current age as of the selected fiscal year (7/1) and will change over time.

Note: Age group represents the age of the individual employee—not the age of the generation.

 

Security & Access


The Generation card is available to users with the following roles: 

  • Report Administrator Sensitive

Org-based security applies; users will only see data for organizations they are permissioned to access.

 

Drilldown Page


Select any data point within the card to open the drilldown page for that fiscal year. To view a different fiscal year, adjust the Fiscal Year filter at the top of the page.
