Overview

The Retention Rate & Seniority card measures the percentage of benefit-eligible employees retained through the fiscal year. It also shows the average years of service (seniority) for all active and inactive employees as of the start of the fiscal year, providing context for workforce stability and experience over time.

This card helps users monitor retention trends, identify potential shifts in workforce longevity, and explore differences across organizational areas or employee groups.

Key Metrics & Definitions


> Retention

    • The % of benefit eligible employees that remained employed at MSU for the entire fiscal year.
    • Note: Retention is not meant to capture internal movement within the organization.
Retention Rate     =      
# of active/inactive employees on 7/1 that are still employed at MSU on 6/30

# of active/inactive employees on 7/1

> Seniority

    • The average years of service at MSU.
    • Note: Years of service is calculated from continuous employment date.
Average Seniority     =      
Sum of years of service for all active/inactive employees on 7/1

# of active/inactive employees on 7/1

Security & Access


The Retention Rate & Seniority Card is available to users with the following roles: 

  • Report Administrator
  • Report Administrator Sensitive

Org-based security applies; users will only see data for organizations they are permissioned to access.

 

Drilldown Page


Select any data point within the card to open the drilldown page for that fiscal year. To view a different fiscal year, adjust the Fiscal Year filter at the top of the page.

The following filters can be applied on the drilldown page. Click 'Go' to apply your selections.

    • Chart View: Displays the number of retained and not retained employees by Seniority Group in a column chart, showing how retention rates vary across different levels of service.

      • Employee Subgroup
      • Organizational Unit
      • Job
