To: MSU Supervisors Subject: Updated MSU Quarantine and Isolation Policies
MSU Supervisors,
MSU Human Resources has received questions from supervisors on appropriate procedures
for COVID-19 quarantine and isolation for MSU employees in light of new federal, state
and local guidance.
MSU’s protocols have been updated as follows:
If you or an employee have tested positive for COVID-19 (isolation protocol)
- Regardless of vaccination status, stay at your place of residence and self-isolate
for at least five calendar days from the onset of symptoms or the date of your test.
- Return to the workplace after five calendar days from the onset of your symptoms or
test date only if you have no symptoms or your symptoms are resolving, and you do
not have a fever.
- Continue to wear a mask around others for an additional five days.
- If your symptoms are not resolving or you continue to experience a fever, stay at
your place of residence until symptoms improve and you no longer have a fever.
If you or an employee are identified as a close contact of someone with COVID-19 (quarantine
protocol) If you or an employee have not been vaccinated, or have not yet received a COVID-19
booster and are booster eligible, you must:
- Stay at your place of residence and quarantine for five calendar days. Return to the
workplace after five days if you remain symptom free.
- If you develop symptoms during the five days, get a test and remain at your place
of residence until you receive your results. Return to the workplace five days after
the onset of symptoms only if your symptoms are resolving.
If you or an employee have received a COVID-19 booster or are not booster eligible
but are vaccinated, you should:
- Come to the workplace and monitor for symptoms for at least five days.
- If you develop symptoms, get tested and stay at your place of residence until you
receive your results.
As always, if you have symptoms of COVID-19 you should stay at your place of residence,
get a test and quarantine until your results come back, then take appropriate actions.
Employees should continue working with their supervisors for accommodations if they
need to quarantine or isolate due to an exposure or confirmed case. We continue to
encourage supervisors to extend grace and empathy to their teams and colleagues as
we continue the important work of MSU while helping protect the health and safety
of all Spartans.
In the coming days, the university will be sharing this information above with all
students, faculty and staff to ensure all are aware of our updated policies. We hope
this information is helpful and informative as we begin our spring semester.
