GEOGRAPHY - AST PROFESSOR

DUTIES:  The Department of Geography and the Center for Global Change and Earth Observations, and the College of Environment and Natural Resources at Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China are seeking applications for a tenure-track position in environmental geography.  This is a joint position at both Michigan State University and Zhejiang University with the tenure home at Michigan State.  The position is a unique opportunity for a geographer interested in international research, teaching, and service.  The international focus must include China and the successful candidate will be expected to spend approximately six months per year at each University.  The areas of expertise may include, but are not limited to, water and/or soil pollution assessment and modeling, aquatic ecosystem assessment, or socioeconomic dimensions of environmental change, including land use dynamics and/or environmental health.  Technical skills in remote sensing and/or GIS and some ability in Mandarin Chinese are preferred.  The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively across disciplines in both Universities.  Duties include developing an externally funded research program, teaching undergraduate and graduate student courses, and mentoring graduate students.  For more information about MSU Department of Geography, please visit our website at http://www.geo.msu.edu

DUTIES:  The Department of Animal Science is seeking a dynamic individual who is expected to establish and maintain a strong beef integrated research and extension program. Programmatic emphasis may be in environmental management, nutrition, genetics, reproduction, health, behavior and welfare, product quality, integrated beef systems or complement other strengths in the Department.  The individual will be expected to contribute to the MSU Beef Team, which utilizes multidisciplinary approaches for teaching, research, and extension. ENGINEERING DEAN – ASC/FULL PROFESSOR;  DIRECTOR – Internal Search – Limited to Tenured MSU Employees

DUTIES:  Director of Interdisciplinary Undergraduate Engineering Education.  The Michigan State University College of Engineering seeks faculty candidates at the Associate or Full Professor level to direct two interdisciplinary engineering programs in the College and pursue scholarly activities in engineering education. This new position will report to the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies. The successful candidate will act as Director of the Cornerstone Engineering program and Director of the Applied Engineering Sciences program, will pursue funding and scholarship in engineering education, and will assist the Associate Dean in the administration of undergraduate education.  The Cornerstone Engineering Program includes two first-year engineering courses, EGR 100 - Introduction to Engineering Design (required of all majors) and EGR 102 (required of seven of nine engineering majors). The Director's duties will include oversight of course content, supervision of instructors, graduate assistants and student mentors, assessment, continuous quality improvement, facilities planning (including transition of the academic program and facilities to a new location in a residence hall), publicity and other aspects of the program. Some of these duties may be delegated to the lead instructor.  The Cornerstone Engineering Program Director will act as the faculty liaison to Spartan Engineering / The Residential Experience, a living-learning program jointly administered by the College of Engineering, MSU Housing and MSU Residence Life. The Director will coordinate activities with the academic advisor and/or co-curricular director of the Residential Experience who oversees tutoring, peer mentors, and related activities. The Director will coordinate with the Assistant to the Dean for Recruiting and K-12 outreach on matters relating to prospective first-year students, and will coordinate with other subunits in the office of the Associate Dean including academic advising, career services, women in engineering, diversity programs and study abroad.  The B.S. program in Applied Engineering Sciences is an interdisciplinary program. The Director will have primary responsibility for all administrative aspects of the major, functioning parallel to a Chairperson's responsibilities for majors in Departments. Duties include curriculum development, continuous quality improvement, oversight of teaching, program publicity, advising of Honors College students and alumni relations, including activities of the alumni / visiting board.   For both programs, the Director will develop a vision for their future direction and use their organizational and interpersonal skills to realize the vision within the framework of the College. The Director will teach courses in the Cornerstone Engineering program and/or the Applied Engineering Sciences program. The Director will be expected to actively pursue funding and scholarly publication in engineering education. Engagement in relevant external professional activities, such as ASEE, is an expectation. The Director may assume responsibility for other administrative duties in the college as delegated by the Associate Dean.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Doctorate or other terminal degree. Qualifications other than degree: The successful candidate will have an earned Ph.D. in Engineering or a closely-related field, have a tenured appointment at Michigan State University, and qualify for tenure in one of the College of Engineering's academic department. PHYSIOLOGY – AST/ASC PROFESSOR

DUTIES:  The Department of physiology invites applications for an appointment at the Assistant/Associate Professor level. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent research program in a contemporary area of breast cancer biology. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to cell or animal models of tumor formation, progression, and metastasis; cancer genetics; breast cancer pathogenesis and molecular pathology; normal and cancer stem cell biology; heterotypic cell interactions in breast cancer; and inflammation and breast cancer. Candidates whose experimental approaches include genomics and proteomics, inducible gene targeting in rodent models, as well as live cell or whole animal imaging are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will join a collegial and highly interactive group of breast cancer investigators whose interests include mammary development, steroid hormones and hormone resistance, cell signaling and cell cycle control, regulation of gene expression, and environmental factors in breast cancer etiology. Opportunities exist to participate in collaborative projects, including a NIEHS/NCI sponsored Research Center on Breast Cancer and the Environment.

EPIDEMIOLOGY – AST/ASC PROFESSOR

DUTIES:  The Division of Biostatistics in the Department of Epidemiology seeks a Statistician/Biostatistician at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor for its expanding program. This is a tenure track position funded by state appropriation. The position is 50% research, 30% teaching, and 20% consulting. The successful candidate is expected to (1) develop and maintain a vigorous research program of their own, and participate in and/or obtain extramural funding through peer-reviewed grant mechanisms; (2) teach Biostatistics courses primarily to graduate students in Epidemiology, and medical students; (3) provide statistical consultation to faculty and graduate students in the department and College of Human Medicine. The Department of Epidemiology is committed to promoting the research careers of its faculty and will provide protected time for the candidate to engage in an NIH-oriented research path.

Training should include methodology for design and analysis of observational studies, surveys, clinical trials, healthcare utilization and costs. Familiarity with propensity score methods, instrumental variables, and models for analysis of longitudinal and correlated data are highly desirable. DUTIES:  Director, Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostic Program.  The Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics Program at Michigan State University seeks outstanding applicants for the Director of the Program. The Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics Program administers both undergraduate and graduate programs of study in clinical laboratory science and is committed to the support of active research programs and to the advancement of the clinical laboratory profession.  The Director must provide vigorous leadership directed at maintaining and advancing the mission, competencies, and goals of the Program developed by the faculty.  The Director will participate in and promote the teaching, research, and outreach commitment of the unit. In addition, the Director is responsible for representing the interests of the Program and its faculty, both within the University and with clinical affiliates and alumni.  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are critical.  Previous academic administrative experience is preferred as is experience in the administration of an NAACLS accredited program.  Teaching responsibilities will be appropriate to expertise. Must hold a Michigan State University tenured faculty position (or potentially fixed term), have an earned Ph.D., and, either hold a professional laboratory certification (SCM, ABHI, NCA, ASCP, ABCC, etc.), or have extensive and proven clinical experience.
